Implementation regulations mandatory use BSN

The implementation regulation mandatory use of BSN (Citizen Service Number), which went into effect on 1 January 2017, might not really interest you. We understand this completely, but it is nevertheless important to discuss this topic. After all, it has some implications for how BSN numbers and identity documents of temporary workers are handled.

NEW ERA

The new implementation regulations are truly a product of these times in which everyone is becoming more aware of the risks linked to our digital world. After all, how safe is this digital world in terms of privacy-sensitive information, such as citizen service numbers (BSN)? There is an obligation to report data leaks, vicarious tax liability, identity fraud and hacking attacks. It is definitely justified that the government takes a stand and comes up with clear regulations. Starting this year, employment agencies have to provide the BSN number of their technical staff to the hirer in question. However, making a copy of an identity document is still prohibited*. This is to protect the person in question.

FOCUSED, CONSCIOUS AND CAREFUL

The digital era comes with a lot of ease and transparency. However, simultaneously, the risks of inconsiderate action are significant. It requires that we all handle the available information of the people who work for us in a focused, conscious and above all very careful manner. In short, the rules have changed; handle things carefully. And, last but not least, let's all keep taking our responsibilities. First of all for the person to whom the BSN number belongs, but also because of our intrinsic need to prevent the risk of identity fraud and other types of undesirable actions. This also applies for 2017! Want to know exactly how this works? Call InAxtion at 078 632 6868 or send a message.

* Unless it involves staff with a non-European / non-EEA nationality; this is mandatory due to the Foreign Nationals (Employment) Act (Wav).
