Shell may have recently announced that the biggest sustainability project in Europe is on temporary pause, but there are still multiple work opportunities in the pipeline this fall. If you’re a skilled electrical or mechanical technician from the EU, the Netherlands is definitely the place to be. Here’s a summary of upcoming projects coming soon to InAxtion.
Shutdown season
For 6 to 8 weeks, factories in the Netherlands shut down for maintenance and testing, and they need skilled electrical and mechanical technicians to help them out. Slightly later than planned, this year’s shutdown season is scheduled for October 2024. It’s one of our busiest times and demand for technical specialists is high.
As you can imagine, companies don’t like closing factories, so they’re keen to get as many workers through the door as possible to get the work done fast. That means there are lots more hours available, making it a great opportunity for workers from the EU to try different projects. Here are three;
- Chemours, Dordrecht will need electricians, cable-tray mechanics, instrumentation fitters, and supervisors / foremen.
- Neste Oil, Maasvlakte will be looking for electricians, steelworkers, construction workers, E&I technicians, and pipefitters.
- Shell Pernis has multiple shutdown projects, located in Botlek, Rotterdam. Jobs are likely to include: ATEX inspectors, electricians, steelworkers, construction workers, E&I technicians, and pipefitters.
If you’re new to the Netherlands from another EU country, shutdown season is also an opportunity to make a good impression on potential employers – companies that are likely to have long-term jobs available in the future. It’s also a chance to find out what you’re good at. Many shutdown workers end up staying in the Netherlands much longer than they expect.
Kooybrug Bridge
Following our strong contribution to the BAAK (Blankenburg) Tunnel project, this bridge renovation project in Den Helder is a great opportunity for regular construction workers to gain experience in working on transport infrastructure. In fact, it’s an ideal fit for electricians who usually work on commercial or industrial projects. It’s also good news for construction workers at a time when there are fewer projects around than usual.
Super yachts
The shipbuilding industry continues to stay strong in the Netherlands. Some of the wealthiest people in the world get their super yachts built here. If working on luxury yachts interests you, you’ll be pleased to know that this October we’ll be hiring for a number of roles, including electricians.
Energy plant
RWE was invited by the Dutch authorities and built an ultramodern coal-fired power plant in Eemshaven, with a capacity of 1,560 MW. The plant plays an important role in supplying the Netherlands with affordable and reliable electricity. RWE Eemshaven will need electricians.
ASML
ASML is a leading company in the semiconductor industry, supporting the world’s leading chipmakers to mass-produce microchips. We’ll be recruiting electricians to upgrade facilities by installing lights, cables, and cable trays, alongside plumbers for installing bathroom blocks.
Civic Projects
Various public building projects like hospitals, multi-story parking, data centers, and shopping centers will be looking for construction workers. On these projects, you tend to work in pairs, with one person being a more fluent English speaker.
InAxtion offers a wide range of skilled engineering roles to EU nationals in the Netherlands. Interested in applying for a role on one of these projects? View jobs
